A beautiful home on or near the water is a stroke of fortune, but to also have the guarantee of privacy inside a gated community only adds to the luxury. Guests to Oyster Harbors are greeted by a friendly guard at the gate house and then proceed through to the home, which is set back among tall trees and carefully manicured grounds. A front porch extending across the front of the house serves as the first formal welcoming sign. The current homeowner, who conceptualized the house and worked closely with the builder, had two things in mind during the design process: keep the flow and energy of the outside architecture and maintain a classic interior.
A free flowing entry way opens into a spacious Great Room with a 30–foot ceiling and a wide fireplace flanked with built-in bookcases. Large, spacious windows overlooking the backyard bring the outside in with pools of soft light and glimpses of green grass. The dining room is a seamless extension of the Great Room and easily fits a table for eight happy diners. Nearby, a separate wet bar is situated off the kitchen and overlooks the back yard. The house is a perfect place to entertain groups of all sizes and the extra counter space, sink, and mini fridge at the wet bar allows guests to mingle away from the cook.
The kitchen is just a few steps away and a chef’s dream, with Thermador appliances and a 6–burner Miele stove set into a sleek and sturdy marble center island. A breakfast nook is tucked to the side of the kitchen for quick family meals. The hallways throughout the home are wide, almost promenade style with hardwood floors, and one links the kitchen to the convenient side entrance into the mud room. Further down the hall, the master bedroom enjoys its own mini wing of the house.
This luxurious room is set off by itself giving the ultimate feeling of privacy, an intentional design decision. The spacious, pleasant room is filled with light from the windows and doors overlooking both lawns and a backyard deck. A vaulted ceiling and walk-in closet with plenty of built-ins for keeping clothing and shoes organized only adds to the sense of luxury. The spa-like master bathroom is one of the attractions of the space, with a double sink set into a marble counter, marble floors and a shower with a tile floor. A lavish bathtub with a marble surround is an inviting space to wile away the hours. Guests will also sleep well in the house filled with soothing colors, smooth bead board, and high ceilings. The first floor guest bedroom sits off the Great Room with another luxurious bathroom outfitted with a large closet. The designer paid close attention to the need for closets throughout the house and new homeowners will be delighted with this space.
The second floor is reached by a set of stairs subtly tucked off the Great Room and prospective homeowners get quite the view as they step onto the landing. At the top of the main staircase and elevated by a small set of steps, a nearly circular room with a dome ceiling paneled in rich mahogany greets guests. At once a conservatory, library, exercise room, and secondary living room, the space has limitless potential. Down a hallway overlooking the Great Room, a secondary master bedroom and guest room await. The master suite is light and airy with a high ceiling and the attached bathroom is resplendent with honed granite on the vanity, floor, and shower. Right off the guest room, a bathroom is fit for sharing with separate vanities set across the room and tile floor.
In addition to the home’s four spacious bedrooms and flowing living space, the backyard has room to build a pool and pool house.
