A Twist on Lightship Baskets
Artist Joan Brink has spent years crafting diverse Nantucket Lightship baskets. Inspired by her time on the Cape and Islands, she started making styles that resemble local lighthouses, including Sankaty Light (right), in the village of Siasconset where her family cottage is located, and Great Point Light (left). She spends up to six weeks intricately weaving in and out hundreds of thin strips of cane; her husband Joel does the woodworking and molding. These baskets are 24 inches high and 6 inches in diameter, and priced at $3500 apiece. www.joanbrink.com
