Savoring the Good Life of Cape Cod
For the Love of Food
“Forget love. I'd rather fall in chocolate.”
- Author unknown
What do chocolate, oysters, honey, basil, figs and champagne have in common? Well, in addition to all being natural aphrodisiacs, these are just some of the ingredients being featured in our local eateries this Valentine’s Day. And since both men and women have hearts that can be reached via their stomachs, grab your sweetie and go celebrate with Cupid, Cape Cod style:
Naked Oyster www.nakedoyster.com
Hailing from their new spot on Main Street in Hyannis, The Naked Oyster has put together several seafood-centric menu additions to celebrate this weekend of love. The Cupid’s Seafood Tower for Two includes tea-smoked scallops, a fresh cracked lobster tail, shrimp cocktail, oysters with a Sauternes geleé and salmon mousse (wow). Entrees range from classics such as a fresh swordfish chop or surf & turf, or you could go for the “Heart Breaker” - a sauté of lobster, scallops, shrimp and haddock wrapped in puff pastry with a Newburg sauce. Desserts are designed for two: choose from tiramisu with chocolate dipped strawberries or an amaretto cake covered in chocolate ganache.
Available Friday 2/11 though Monday 2/14. Prices range for $14 for the double desserts to $120 for the decadent and delicious “Cupid’s Seafood Tower for Two,” complete with a bottle of Veuve Clicquot.
Red Pheasant www.redpheasantinn.com
If a Valentine’s Day celebration gone right means enjoying a great glass of Pinot Noir and a rack of lamb by a crackling fire, then the Red Pheasant is your destination. This Dennis fine dining institution will offer their regular menu along with lots of great specials; start off with an appropriately pink-hued glass of dry Alsatian rosé, then move on to a signature dish using grass-fed beef from Maine’s Wolfe’s Neck Farm -- or perhaps some fresh-as-it-gets local day boat seafood.
Available Friday 2/11 though Monday 2/14. The Red Pheasant is usually closed Mondays but is open on the 14th, and handing out red carnations that night, to boot!
Maresa’s Cooking www.maresascooking.com
For a unique social experience featuring exquisite and authentic Northern Italian cucina, get on board with Maresa's Supper Club in the West End of Hyannis. Valentine's week, personal chefs Stephen Colella and Samantha Welch will prepare a four-course meal highlighting handcrafted (with, dare I say it... love) ravioli filled with ricotta, Parmigiano-Reggiano, Pecorino Romano, sautéed spinach and Maresa’s signature sauce.
Available Thursday 2/10, Saturday 2/12 and Monday 2/14 at 6:30 p.m., and is BYOV (bring your own vino). Reserve as an individual, a couple, or a group of up to eight; call 508.280.6331 or email maresascooking@gmail.com.
Lyric www.lyriccapecod.com
Why not indulge in a little “Love at Lyric.” Complimented by the jazzy sounds of owner/operator Ann Austin, this special four-course dinner boasts a glass of champagne, a shared starter for two (which includes a choice of two appetizers such as oysters on the half shell and house-made duck meatballs), plus a salad, entrée (such as filet mignon, salmon or day boat scallops), and dessert.
Available Friday 2/11 though Monday 2/14. $55 per person (plus tax and tip - don’t forget to give the government -- and your server -- some extra love).
Agro Dolce www.agrodolcecapecod.com
Agro Dolce in Brewster is offering a chef-inspired romantic Valentine's menu in addition to the regular menu, accompanied by live jazz music.
Available Friday 2/11, Saturday 2/12 and Monday 2/14. Reservations recommended.
Pain D’Avignon www.paindavignon.com
Our Hyannis-based French bakery and bistro will be doing a few different good deeds for their valentines. Starting on 2/7, chocolate-dipped, long-stemmed jumbo strawberries and chocolate-raspberry ganache tarts will be available in the bakery. And for dinner Valentine’s Day weekend, Chef Toby will turn out unique plates such as steamed buns with duck confit and house-made sauerkraut, Bayonne ham-wrapped sea scallops with herbed bread pudding, double veal chop (for two!) and a limoncello tart with blackberry confit.
Valentines-themed dinner specials available Friday 2/11, Saturday 2/12 and Sunday 2/13.
