Love at First Site

With wedding season right around the corner, the office is buzzing with preparation for the 2011 season. But first, some spring-cleaning is in order and updating their preferred vendor list is a top priority.
I have planned some memorable weddings at some great venues on Cape Cod. While there are a lot of great venue options, a few unexpected locations really stand out and make beautiful reception sites. Since Cape Cod is a destination location for most brides opting for a venue instead of a tented wedding often allows clients to easily combine wedding day needs with guest accommodations. However, every once in a while we meet a couple that is looking for something a little different. These types of weddings are especially fun as I love discovering new places!
Here is a list of my top 5 offbeat wedding sites:
Truro Vineyards- This is a perfect venue for a couple looking for that effortless California chic style. When the grapes are ripe the vineyard is the perfect setting for a tented wedding up to 200 people. The Barrel Room is ideal for a rehearsal dinner or intimate wedding reception. Since the location does not serve food, your catering options are wide open and pairing courses with Truro Vineyard vino creates a unique Cape experience. www.trurovineyardsofcapecod.com
Bourne Farm- Most people associate Cape weddings with beachside ceremonies but off of the water there are some fantastic rural and rustic locations like Bourne Farm. If you desire a more country farm feel for your Cape Cod wedding this is the perfect place! Gently rolling hills of grass make a perfect backdrop for a large tent and the historic barn can be opened up and used as well. www.saltpond.info/wedding.shtml
Borsari Gallery- This historic site turned art gallery is a great location for smaller weddings on the Cape. It is located on Route 6A in Dennis and can hold up to 75 people inside. The current owners completely renovated the historic barn while maintaining its historic charm, including “The Icebox” room from the building’s slaughterhouse days. The colorful art collection, hung from floor to ceiling, provides built-in ambiance for smaller scale events. Even if this is not the right wedding site for you, I highly recommend checking out Borsari’s full-service afternoon tea. www.borsarigallerycapecod.com
Nauticus Marina- For brides that are looking for a touch of nautical chic but still want to have a beautifully tented affair, Nauticus Marina in Osterville is the perfect location for simple elegance. Nauticus is a privately owned reception site that fills up quickly each season but is always on the top of my list for clients. The meticulously maintained property holds tents for up to 200 guests and the unique view of the harbor lends itself to many tent layouts and configurations. There is a building on the property with great architectural detail and is often used for pre-reception cocktails. www.nauticusmarina.com
Historic Highfield Hall- If you are interested in architectural history, Highfield Hall in Falmouth is the ideal location for your wedding and reception. The landscaped grounds are breathtaking and the Queen Anne-style mansion is absolutely gorgeous. The property is unique for memorable weddings and the possibilities are truly endless. Whether you take advantage of the sprawling lawn for a tented reception and croquet or host a 50-60 person gathering in one of the restored function rooms, Highfield Hall is well worth checking out. www.highfieldhall.org
